On January 12, 2026 Kindness 911 experienced a MIRAcle!

Through our work with Oregon law enforcement agencies and the OACP (Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police) Kindness 911 was introduced to Darin Campbell, Director of Working Dogs Oregon back in 2024.  He was a vendor at the OACP Conference (along with Burton who is now a comfort dog for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office) and received a Kindness Citation for his amazing program.  Darin also recently received a second Kindness Citation, completely by chance, from the University of Oregon PD who also has one of his comfort dogs!  Working Dogs Oregon (WDO) is an education, advocacy and dog training nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of all dogs with jobs.  WDO fully trains and donates dogs (patrol, comfort, service) to police departments and veterans at no cost to the recipient.

In November 2025 I was meeting with Darin at a coffee shop and he brought Mira, a comfort dog in training, along with him, completely by chance.  Mira is a Showline Western Bred German Shepard.  It was during this meeting that I felt a special connection with Mira.  Periodically since that meeting I had asked how Mira was doing just because she was a good pup.  We had talked hypothetically many times of how a comfort dog would allow Kindness 911 to serve law enforcement, firefighters, students and those with special needs among many other populations.  Darin liked the idea because when they invest so much into the training of one of these dogs, they want their skills to be utilized regularly.

On January 12th Working Dogs Oregon asked if Kindness 911 would be Mira’s new home and we were thrilled!  She visits first responders on the regular, attends events and goes to work with me at my school where she gets to interact with middle schoolers all day and attends my Special Olympics Unified PE class also.  Mira is truly performing MIRAcles!
